Black cohosh - Chinese medicine for centuries. Remedy for conditions such as headache, gingivitis, problematic childbirth, arthritic problems, antidote for snakebite, and female complaints.

Scientists studying black cohosh’s to see if it has the ability to mimic effects of the hormone estrogen on the body.

Clinical studies reported a positive effect on menopausal and postmenopausal complaints.

Such studies suggest that black cohosh may have a component that produces a hormonal balancing effect in the female reproductive system.

Phytoestrogens that are in black cohosh have been shown to decrease the growth of certain types of breast cancer.

Dong Quai – Chinese medicine that has been used for centuries for a variety of female complaints, female fatigue, recovery from illness, low vitality, and allergies.

Dong quai has been used for a long time in the alleviation of the symptoms of menopause and premenstrual syndrome (PMS). Scientists think Dong quai rich supply of phtoestrogens helps the body dispose of excess estrogen during PMS.

During menopause dong quai’s phytoestrogens facilitate the body’s ability to process available estrogen more efficiently.

Dang quai helps the cardiovascular system. The herb dilates blood vessels and facilitates healthy blood flow, which helps in the fight of hypertension. Dong quai also strengthens the immune system by enhancing white blood cell activity.

Flaxseed – Best sources of the essential fatty acids. (Omega-3, and omega-6)

They are a necessary component in helping with energy production. They help regulate the breakdown of cholesterol and triglycerides, help reduce inflammation, hormone production, enhance immune and central nervous systems. (Omega-3 is important for development of the brain and eyes in children) Studies suggest ADHD may be linked to omega-3 deficiency.

Researchers think omega-3 can help prevent breast, prostate, colon cancers, and influence hormone metabolism within postmenopausal women.

Omega-3 can help lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol levels, reduce pain from rheumatoid arthritis. Deficiencies of omega-3 in the body have been linked to depression.

Lecithin – Lecithin contains compounds responsible for maintaining healthy cell membranes. Insufficient amounts of lecithin in the body contribute to premature aging of the cells. (Lecithin is found in egg yolks, soybeans, nuts, chocolate, and organ meats)

Research suggests that some components of lecithin may improve Alzheimer’s disease. Supports liver recovery after damage from alcohol, viruses and other toxins.

Lecithin protests organs from toxins, extensive use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, i.e. ibuprofen.

Lecithin helps fight cardiovascular diseases. Lowers cholesterol, and lowers homocysteine levels, which are a risk factor for heart disease. (Homocysteine- amino acid found in small amounts in the blood. In high amounts can cause, stroke, heart attack, pulmonary embolism, or deep venous thrombosis.)

Licorice – Comes from the Mediterranean and Middle East used traditionally for fatigue, gastrointestinal distress, and inflammation.

Studies suggest licorice has an effect on the adrenal gland, due to its ability to regulate production of steroids produced by the adrenal gland, cortisol. (Cortisol. - involved in carbohydrate, protein, and fat metabolism, anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive)

Licorice stimulates the production of antibodies. Boosts the body’s immunity to viral and bacterial invaders.

Licorice has been used as an expectorant. It stimulates mucous production in the throat. Licorice has the ability to protect the irritated mucous membranes of the stomach lining and reduce symptoms of stomach ulcers.

Licorice has the ability to protect the liver from certain damaging chemicals due to its antioxidant effects.

Red Claver – Used traditionally in the Oriental, European, and Native American cultures.

For relive of couching, asthma, and various skin disorders.

Recent research focused on the estrogen-like components isoflavones, which belong to the group of compounds known as phytoestrogens. These compounds behave like estrogen in the body, which help in the support of menopause and related symptoms.

Red clover effects the production of estrogen and other hormones in the body that help maintain a healthier hormone balance.

Red clover isoflavones function as important antioxidants, limiting free radical damage to the intestines, and skin. Limits oxidation of cholesterol, decreases the risk of cardiovascular disease, and supports healthy blood flow.

Red Clover supports the prevention of many types of cancer. Scientists think it may be due to red clovers ability to support a healthy growth of cells and inhibit cell mutations which lead to tumor growth, skin cancer, leukemia, breast cancer, gastrointestinal cancers, prostate cancer and more.

Red Clover improves and maintains calcium levels in the bones, and improves bone density.

Soy Isoflavones – Scientists classify soy isoflavones as phytoestrogens (plant-based compounds that have estrogen-like activity.

They are similar to estrogens that stimulates estrogenic activity.

Soybeans and tofu are the best dietary source of isoflavones. (If the soy is processed with alcohol it will not contain isoflavones)

Soy isoflavones are useful for treating symptoms associated with menopause, inhibit cancer-inducing estrogens, stimulate the growth of estrogen, may help in fighting prostate cancer in men.

Isoflavones support bone health, reduce osteoporosis, support cardiovascular health, help lower cholesterol.

Rosemary – Known for its stimulating, uplifting, and revitalizesing value.

The herb is native to the Mediterranean.

Rosemary is used for problems of the digestive tract, particularly bloating and cramps.

Rosemary increases the production of stomach juices which stimulates digestion. Helps with nervous agitation, low blood pressure, increases blood flow and relieves sore aching muscles.
